On day two, we’re highlighting how Lombardo has been data centers’ biggest cheerleader in Nevada, giving them a whopping $240 million in tax breaks.
While Lombardo says he is “wholeheartedly in support of data centers,” rural, urban, and suburban communities are sounding the alarm on data centers jacking up costs and draining our water. Proving again and again how out of step he is with Nevadans, Lombardo still holds up the current status quo of zero oversight as a “model.”
Here’s a closer look at how Joe Lombardo is “wholeheartedly in support of data centers”:
- On Lombardo’s watch, there are now over 70 data centers either operating or planned, all with no real evidence that they create revenue or sustainable jobs.
- Instead of prioritizing Nevada jobs and revenue, Lombardo has given data center companies $240 million in tax abatements. If the companies paid those taxes, that money could be used to lower housing, health care, and utility costs.
- It’s no surprise that the data center industry is one of Lombardo’s biggest campaign donors, giving him $2 million.
