Bombshell New Reporting Reveals Lombardo Is Helping Trump Fast-Track Building More Data Centers In Nevada

“I am wholeheartedly in support of data centers” – Joe Lombardo

New reports reveal that Joe Lombardo signed Nevada up for Donald Trump’s program to fast-track the buildout of new data centers on public land and bypass community and environmental reviews in the process. This is the latest example of Joe Lombardo “wholeheartedly” embracing data centers and taking care of Trump’s “billionaire friends” at Nevadans’ expense.

After signing Nevada up to fast-track data center construction, Lombardo tried to spin his record and replicate a MAGA Republican strategy memo from Trump’s pollster trying to deceive voters. In reality, Lombardo has given data center companies $240 million in tax breaks all while raking in $2 million in campaign contributions from AI-linked donors.

Revelations about Lombardo helping Trump build more energy-draining data centers in Nevada comes as new analysis forecasts that Nevadans will already be paying hundreds of dollars more each year in utility costs thanks to other Trump administration policies that Lombardo has embraced.

NBC: Trump administration’s deal with Nevada adds fuel to the fight over data centers in governor’s race

Key points:

  • The agreement signed by Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo and the administration could make it easier to build data centers on public land.
  • Earlier this year, Lombardo said he was “wholeheartedly in support of data centers“ because they were not drawing down Nevada’s resources. Ford has also gone after Lombardo for taking campaign contributions from AI-linked donors.
  • But Lombardo also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Trump administration in late August that could expedite the administration’s efforts to build data centers on public land in his state.
  • Emily Domenech, the executive director of the permitting council, said last year that proposed data centers on federal land are “really ideal candidates” to be advanced through FAST-41. Nevada has the highest percentage of land owned by the federal government of any state.
  • Meanwhile, the Bureau of Land Management is considering proposals for data centers on public land in six states, including Nevada, The Washington Sun reported last month.
  • Notably, though, the memorandum does include a confidentiality agreement that could shield some information about the efforts from the public. Transparency concerns have emerged as one of the biggest issues surrounding data center development nationwide, with developers and local governments catching heat for nondisclosure agreements around the projects.

Daily Caller: Battleground Governor’s Trump Permitting Pact Stands To Pour Fuel On Data Center Fire

Key points:

  • Data centers appear to be becoming a liability for a Republican governor locked in one of the nation’s tightest midterm races.
  • Republican Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo signed an Aug. 31 agreement opting the state into the Trump administration’s fast-track permitting process, which could speed data center construction on federal land, NBC News reported. Data centers have emerged as a midterm wedge issue across the nation, with a pollster close to President Donald Trump warning in a September memo that Republican candidates who throw their full support behind new data centers are on the wrong side of the voters.
  • The deal stands to put Lombardo on the unpopular side of the data center debate, with 59 percent of Nevada likely voters opposed to data center construction near them, a Sept. 10 Emerson College poll found.
  • “I’m wholeheartedly in support of data centers because currently we’re not having that draw on the resources, the limitation of our resources, within our environment as a result of data centers,” Lombardo told 2 News Nevada in May.
